While Georgia moms are busy caring for their children and families, leaders in the Georgia State House of Representatives have their back.

The nation is facing a growing maternal and infant mortality crisis, and Georgia is putting a spotlight on maternal health and postpartum care. Under the leadership of Speaker Jon Burns, the State House is creating real solutions to the issues facing pregnant and postpartum women, and their children.

Description:

As of January 1, 2024, the waiting period for children and pregnant women to receive Medicaid is no longer in place.
Provides $1.7 million to fund the home visit pilot program from SB 106, to provide home visits in at-risk and underserved rural communities during pregnancy and early childhood.
Includes $47.9 million to extend post-childbirth Medicaid coverage from 60 days to 12 months.

The FY 2019 state budget included $2 million, directed to DPH, for maternal mortality prevention.
Funded 20 OBGYN residencies
Included $500,000 in state funds for reimbursement for group prenatal care.
Provided a $250 increase in reimbursement for newborn deliveries that occur in counties with fewer than 35,000 people within the Department of Community Low-income Medicaid budget
